3 Peaks Challenge FAQ

What does 3 Peaks Challenge involve?

Please see each challenge page for a compleate breakdown of the event.

Can anyone do a 3 peaks challenge?

Yes, anyone can attempt a 3 peaks challenge however if you are on medication or carrying an injury it is strongly advised to seek medical guidance on whether you are physically able to attempt a challenge.

Do I have to complete the national 3 peaks challenge in 24 hours?

No - you don't have to do the national 3 peaks in 24 hours, you can take as long as you like. JGHF offer the opportunity to complete the challenge at a more leisurely pace, contact JGHF and I can tailor your challenge to suit your group.

Is it best to do the national 3 peaks North to South?

The challenge may start from either Ben Nevis (North) or Snowdon (South), most however start in the north and then move south, this is to reduce the logistical problems travelling home. Ben Nevis is normally started at approximately 06:00hrs and takes around 5 hours to complete. There then comes a 6 hour drive to Wasdale and the beginning of the ascent to Scarfell Pike which will take approximately 4 hours to complete. It is then a further 5 hour drive to Llanberis and the final ascent to Snowdon which will take 4 hours to complete.

What dates is the Three Peaks Challenge on?

You decide – you can either organise your own challenge or you can ask JGHF to organise your challenge for you on a date of your choice. Please note that challenges take place between April – October (inclusive) in order to ensure maximum light and preferable weather conditions.

Do I need to do it for charity?

This is entirely up to you, but there is no reason why not. If you can’t think of a charity that has a personal meaning to you, you might want to look for a small, local charity. This way you will be helping your local community / area and will be able to see the results of your hard work and generosity.

What is the Instructor to Client Ratio?

JGHF work on a 1 - 8 Instructor to client ratio with a minimum of two instructors for any challenge.

Do I have to wear boots?

Yes – For safety reasons JGHF insist all clients wear an ankle supporting boot. JGHF reserves the right not to permit anyone to undertake a challenge with the wrong footwear.
